Saturday sessions – Jewel Ornament of Liberation

Buddhism for beginners - Gampopa

Gampopa

A new series of monthly Saturday sessions on Gampopa’s key foundation text, the Jewel Ornament of Liberation, starts in January 2022 – an ideal introduction to Buddhism for beginners.

Lama Jampa, who teaches the Jewel Ornament at the Manchester shedra, has asked Jonathan Macaskill and John Sainsbury, the Kagyu Ling co-ordinators, to follow up his teachings by going through the text from the beginning.

This will provide an introduction to the key points of Buddhism for beginners, as Gampopa’s text covers the whole Buddhist path from its starting point to the achievement of enlightenment.

Also, it will serve as a refresher for people who attended the shedra and enable anyone who missed one of Lama Jampa’s teachings to plug the gap. There will be time for questions and discussion, with the opportunity to spend longer on elements of the text.

2022 dates for Jewel Ornament Saturday sessions

The Saturday morning sessions take place at Kagyu Ling Buddhist Centre in Manchester. People can also join on zoom.

15 January; 5 February; 5 March; 2 April; 7 May; 11 June; 23 July.

All run from 10am to 12.30pm, with a short refreshment break at about 11am.

There is no need to book in advance, either for the in-person class at Kagyu Ling or the zoom event. And you don’t need to commit to attend every session – you can just dip in and out for specific sections of the text where you might want a better understanding.

There is no charge but a suggested contribution of £3 would be welcomed, if you can afford it, for each class you attend either at Kagyu Ling or online. You can donate online.
