Carrots, cans and creativity, exploring sound and silence.
For our fifth Saraswati Sundays gathering we will explore the wonderful and sometimes surprising art of making musical instruments.
Using simple materials — some ordinary, some rather unexpected — we will discover how sound can be shaped, amplified and transformed into rhythm, melody and texture.
You'll know that instruments can be made from things like bottles, tubes, wood, rubber bands… and we're even talking vegetables!
Through hands-on creativity we will experiment with different ways of producing sound — blowing, plucking, striking, scraping and shaking — learning how vibration becomes music.
Along the way we will explore music used in Buddhist practice — bells, chants, drums and conch shells.
This session invites us to experience that spirit of musical curiosity and creativity together.
Children and adults alike are warmly invited to build simple instruments and try them out in a relaxed and joyful setting.
No musical experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

About Saraswati Sundays
Saraswati Sundays is an ongoing series of creative afternoons led by artists Tanja Jäger and Zoë Lauren McLean, exploring Buddhist themes through art, craft, and creative reflection. Designed to bring together Buddhists, their families, friends and neighbours, these gatherings offer a joyful way to share space, nourish relationships, and engage with the Dharma through the arts.
